It was on the fourteenth of July 1980, at
some un-earthly hour of the morning, that I was brought into this world.
An only child with plenty of love from his parents. Brought up in the village
of Earls Barton - where I still live to this day, with many friends and
according to my teachers: 'Such an angel. A pleasure to teach.' I soon changed
that opinion in secondary school. I had a real hatred for school, I still
do now...
The system held no interest for me, so I had no interest for the system.
Having been predicted to fail my exams by my teachers, due to lack of work
and attendance, I went on to get high grade passes in just about everything.
The one thing I really cared for was music, even though they had told me
not to take part in it at school because I wasn`t a good enough musician.
So, I did it anyway. Two whole years of dossing and handing in pieces recorded
five minutes before the deadline. Most of them not even my own compositions!
It was towards the end of the two year GCSE period that I first started
playing guitar. When it came to my exams, they asked me if I`d play guitar
because I was still crap at playing piano. I ONLY KNEW TWO CHORDS!!! So,
I told them I`d sing.....
No-one in the class had heard me sing before, so it was a bit of a laughing
matter. Especially as the whole class was made of girls. Finally it came
to be my time to go for the exam. I`d chosen to sing 'Blue suede shoes'
and 'Oh boy'. They might not have been the most challenging of songs but
it was a last minute choice...
After the exam I left the room to find the rest of my class standing outside.
They weren`t laughing this time. The secret was out. Soon they would be
asking me to sing in front of the class in lessons.
This was the point where I started taking things a little more seriously.
With the help of my good friend Geoffrey Ginns I went about writing some
songs. We soon enlisted his brother Richard on lead guitar. After a few
name changes and one gig, we slightly disbanded. Due to lack of time more
than anything. Hopefully, one day this band shall be revived. Under it`s
last name 'Squeegee'.
But anyway, I`m still writing stuff....
You know how it goes....
Nathan.
